Senior Pictures in Edina, MN: What to Expect

Senior year is such an exciting time, and your senior pictures in Edina should be part of the fun!
I’ve been photographing seniors for more than twenty years, and I know that planning a session can come with a lot of questions. What should you wear? Where should we go? What if you’re not comfortable in front of the camera?
That’s where I come in.
From helping you choose outfits and locations to guiding you through your session and creating beautiful artwork for your home, I’m here to make the entire experience easy, fun and, most importantly, beautiful.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before we begin. We’ll plan it together.

Wardrobe Guidance That Still Feels Like You
When it comes to senior pictures, my number one piece of advice is simple: be comfortable and be yourself.
If you don’t feel comfortable wearing something in real life, you won’t feel confident wearing it in front of the camera. And you definitely don’t need to buy an entirely new wardrobe or dress differently just because it’s senior picture day.
During planning, we’ll talk about outfits that feel like you while also creating variety in your photographs. Color, layers, textures, accessories, and different styles can all help us create a collection of photographs that shows off your personality.
And if you’re having trouble deciding what to wear, I’m happy to help! That’s all part of the experience.
Choosing Locations for Senior Pictures in Edina
Location helps determine the overall feel of your senior pictures, but I always tell my seniors something that might surprise them:
It’s actually not the location that matters most. It’s the light.
A beautiful location in harsh light isn’t necessarily going to photograph as well as a simple spot with gorgeous light.
Instead of worrying about finding the “perfect” location, think about the overall feel you want. Maybe that’s rural and rustic with fields and woods. Maybe you want something outdoorsy with greenery and water. Or maybe an urban setting with texture and architecture feels more like you.
Tell me the vibe you’re drawn to, and I’ll help choose locations that make it happen. After more than twenty years of photographing around Edina and Minneapolis, I have plenty of favorite spots!
You Don’t Need to Know How to Pose
This is one of the biggest things I want seniors to know before their session:
I’m going to tell you what to do the entire time.
You don’t need posing or modeling experience. I’ll guide you through the session and help you look and feel your best in front of the camera.
My sessions are upbeat and gently directed, with plenty of room for those genuine, unplanned moments that will become some of your favorite photographs.
And if you’re feeling a little nervous at first, that’s completely normal. Most people aren’t used to having a camera pointed at them! My job is to help you relax, have fun, and enjoy the experience.
Parents Can Be Part of the Senior Experience
There is something pretty special about photographing a high school senior.
For parents, it can feel like yesterday that you were sending them off to kindergarten, and now you’re preparing to send them into the world.
I’ve had the incredible honor of photographing some of my seniors since they were newborns. Watching those little babies grow into young adults and being invited back to document this next chapter is something I never take for granted.
I ask that at least one parent or guardian come along for the senior session, but that doesn’t mean you need to watch every photograph happen. If your senior feels more comfortable without Mom or Dad watching, you’re welcome to hang out in the car.
And if we’re including parents, siblings, or another favorite person in a few photographs, we can plan for that too.
Your Experience Starts Before the Session
Before we ever start photographing, we’ll plan together.
We’ll talk about your outfits, locations, the overall feel you’re hoping for, and anything else you’d like me to know. If you have inspiration photos or questions, I’d love to see and hear them.
As we get closer, I’ll finalize the meeting time and location with you. I photograph around beautiful light, so exact timing can depend on the sunset and weather.
When you arrive, we’ll go through your outfits, decide what order makes the most sense, and map out where we’ll photograph each look.
I want you to arrive feeling excited about your session, knowing that all those little details have already been taken care of.
Senior Pictures Become Artwork You Can Live With
One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is seeing the photographs we create become part of my clients’ homes.
I don’t want your senior pictures to be something you look at once and then forget about on your computer. These photographs represent such an important time in your family’s life, and I want you to be able to enjoy them every day.
After your session, we’ll meet again for your Image Reveal + Design Appointment. This is when you’ll see your photographs for the first time, choose your favorites, and decide how you’d like to enjoy them.
Maybe that’s a beautiful portrait on your wall, an album filled with your favorite images, or a collection of framed photographs. My senior offerings include professionally finished wall portraits, albums, framed image collections, and gift prints.
Whatever you choose, I’ll guide you through the process so you’re not left wondering what to do with your pictures.
The goal is to create something beautiful that becomes part of your home and your family’s story.

A Senior Experience That Feels Like You
After more than twenty years of photographing seniors, one of the things I love most is getting to know each senior and seeing their personality come through in their photographs.
Some seniors arrive knowing exactly what they want, while others are happy to let me take the lead. Either way, we’ll create something beautiful together.
If you’re planning senior pictures in Edina, MN, or the surrounding Minneapolis area, I’d love to help you celebrate this exciting chapter.
You don’t need to have the outfits, locations, or artwork figured out before you reach out. That’s what I’m here for!
